The US Trademark Process: Guiding Global Clients Through the Nuances

US trademark law is a complex web. Companies and individuals rely on Katz Group for informed guidance through the trademark process. With more than 20 years of global and domestic IP Portfolio management and litigation experience, Julie’s practice focuses exclusively on identifying, defining and maximizing her clients’ intellectual property rights, and it includes client consultation regarding acquisition, enforcement and defense of trademarks, trade dress, domain names and copyrights.

Julie routinely works with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and Copyright Office; prepares trademark and packaging risk assessments regarding use and registration; counsels and monitors portfolios to confirm that the IP is used properly and effectively; negotiates and drafts licenses and other transactional agreements relating to IP whether obtained domestically or internationally; creates enforcements programs and procedures that promote effective use of IP and policing against improper use by others; and works with her clients to establish internal policies for them to avoid conflicts with and respect the IP rights of others. In addition, Julie excels at the effective utilization of US Customs and Border Protection to stop counterfeits and parallel imports from entering the US.

Julie’s trademark litigation experience includes handling disputes over toys, auto parts and car-top carriers to erosion control products, word-working machinery and kitchen appliances. She also has successfully handled hundreds of contentious trademark disputes before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and successfully represented trademark owners through ICANN’s domain name dispute resolution procedures.
